We recommend waiting as long as possible before the first wash; up to 3-4 months if possible. it is not the end of the world if you decide to wash it sooner. In order to offset smell, hang drying out in the sun is recommended. hand washing followed by hang drying is highly recommended, but using a washing machine is acceptable as long as you wash it in "gentle" mode, no spin cycle.
